A Framework for Life and Love
Why should we invest time in reading and understanding the Bible beyond its recognition as a significant literary work? There are numerous perspectives, religious traditions, and texts addressing the question of God's existence. My intention is not to determine which religion or belief system is correct. Rather, I aim to share central concepts that enable us to transcend distractions and experience life with the richness and harmony of a grand piano melody.
Throughout life, we receive external stimuli and interpret them in ways that align with our individual perspectives. Some individuals lack this ability due to impairments affecting their senses or cognitive functions. Personally, I interpret the world through the lens of my unique framework. This process occurs unconsciously for most people as we process constant input. Research indicates that we possess both conscious and unconscious biases. The brain efficiently filters information, discarding what it deems unnecessary and processing the remainder without our explicit awareness. I refer to this process as our framework. Regardless of our awareness, we filter information to fit established thought patterns and beliefs about the world and those around us.
In my book, "Letters to My Daughter," my perspective is grounded in the belief in a central being who created all things and communicates with humanity through the Bible. I consider this Biblical communication essential to our existence and future, as God's ways and thoughts are ultimately beyond human comprehension. While this is my conviction, I also believe in extending grace to differing opinions and ideas, regardless of whether one agrees. We share a common journey, and it is preferable to foster mutual appreciation and cooperation rather than seeking to eliminate perspectives that differ from our own.
I have studied the Bible since my mid-twenties, though I do not consider myself a scholar. Through my study, I have identified an overarching theme that supports a way of living which enriches both my life and the lives of others. To paraphrase the words of Jesus: "The most important commandment is to love God and the people God created."
I do not intend to persuade you that the Bible's central theme is an expression of God's profound love for humanity. I believe that God cares deeply for all creation, with a particular focus on human beings. Among the possible forms of communication, God chose a father-son relationship, emphasizing love, care, commitment, honor, honesty, grace, kindness, and gentleness. In contrast, hate, anger, and falsehood represent the opposite of God's intentions. This perspective differs from various other religious interpretations, including some within Christianity.
Each person holds a unique definition of success, with perspectives as numerous as grains of sand. Personally, I choose to defer to God's perspective, recognizing that my understanding is limited. Therefore, I prioritize love over hate, deference over force, and freedom over control. Nevertheless, there are circumstances where the use of power and control is necessary. The essential principle is to act from a foundation of love.
