Finding Your Joy Through a Change in Perspective
Is there anyone who will say, "I DO NOT want to be happy or experience joy!"? Joy is not simply a personal issue. It affects everyone around us and may be critical to your business's bottom line.
“Work without joy is drudgery. Drudgery does not produce champions, nor does it produce great organizations.” ― John Wooden, Wooden on Leadership: How to Create a Winning Organization.
How is your Joy lately?
Did you leave it behind in bed before rise?
Or lose it while fishing for greater demise.
Was it tattered and torn in windmills of strive?
Or thoughtlessly pitched in the game of your life.
Would you like to regain it but can't quite devise?
In scheming and plotting your way to the skies.
A change of perception will help you revise
Ideas of grandeur; your health, wealth, and wise.
Here are three things you can do today on your journey of success:
Seek Wisdom - this requires humility because we begin by admitting that we do not know everything and that we are deficient in some area(s).
Change Perspective - Joy, like happiness and contentment, is a state of mind. If you do not have Joy in what you do or the days you live, the answer is not to change your circumstances. Rather, seek wisdom to see your life from a different perspective.
Intelligent Intention - No one makes progress or change without taking a step. As John Wooden and many after him have said, "If you are leading an organization or team, the first person you need to lead is YOU!" Leading an organization from behind will only go so far. This takes intentionality, but remember the first step is seeking wisdom on HOW to be intentional, and WHAT to be intentional. A good treatise on being Intentional can be found in John Maxwell's 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
To find your joy, remember that it is YOUR Joy, and the change in perspective and intention will be different for each person. Therefore, we provide the structured steps you may use, but not a detailed to-do list.
BONUS
If you really want to make a difference in your life, choose Joy. Take a few minutes in the morning to ensure you take it with you, don't let it wander off during the day, and give it a nice cleansing every evening.
Morning - Prayer/Meditation. You don't know what you will face today or if you will even survive to make it home. You need wisdom beyond yourself.
Day - Prayer/Meditation. How are you doing? Take 5 minutes to do a quick eval and reset.
Eventide - Prayer/Meditation. Consider the day and ask for wisdom to make the necessary changes, first in yourself.
How have you found Joy in your life? What worked, what didn't?
